Wedding TV Shows vs Reality

Something that I have ran across over the past 2 years or so, with the ever growing popularity of wedding tv shows is Brides wanting to do a taste testing. I’ve had numerous caterers ask me if other people in the industry are doing that and they may be in the bigger cities, but locally it isn’t something that anyone does, for a couple of reasons.

Many times on the tv shows the price per person starts at $100+, in the Lake Cumberland area price per person ranges from $10-$20.  For caterers to prepare a meal for the Bride & Groom to taste, they would literally be purchasing food for about 10 people.  Although whipping up a meal in your kitchen for 2 people is quick and easy, it isn’t always like that for caterers.  Typically their products come from a distributor and not Kroger like yours and mine do.

I talked with a few caterers to see when they would offer a taste testing for the Bride & Groom and the consensus was if the wedding food total was going to be $8,000 +.  Many caterers did say that if they were fixing a similar meal for an event they would let the Bride & Groom know. My best advice for you is to talk with your family, friends and recent Brides (and your planner of course) about their suggestions and recommendations on a caterer.
